Last night I went out for a rare dinner without a child to Legends at Steps in Torquay.
Having been to Legends at their old site on Torwood Street a number of times over the years I had high expectations for their new home at the old Steps Bistro location.
We were greeted warmly by a lovely waitress on entrance who showed us to our table. The waitress was the only member of staff we came across during our visit and provided a great service, attending to our needs without being overbearing, and was very friendly.
I had a glass of house white wine and the main course of Broccoli Bake, my date had steak and a lager (man food!) The broccoli bake was absolutely delicious, cannot fault it at all. I was actually disappointed that it was so filling I could not finish it all. The steak I'm told was very good too.
The restaurant is very small but has a lovely décor and is a updated take on the old restaurant. It was busy but not full (unsuprising on a very rainy January night) and had a good atmosphere.
For a couple or a group of friends the restaurant makes for a lovely night out, but due to its size I'm not sure how I would feel about taking my sometimes noisy toddler as I feel with the restaurant being so small he'd stand good chance of disturbing everyone in there! Definitely a great place for date night though.
I was really impressed by Legends at Steps and it exceeded all of my expectations.
Our bill for our two main courses and two rounds of drinks came to £38 which I felt excellent value for the quality of food and service.
If I was to pick fault, the only thing I could probably find is that the name of the place is a bit of a mouthful, go back to just calling it Legends!
