Parents and Teachers:
Torbay Holiday Helpers has an exciting new event for 2015
Anyone who knows me will know how much I love Zulily, the daily deals site selling items for kids. I've recommended the site to many and often joked that the day doesn't start until the 7am Zulily email arrives.
Since January I've noticed changes to the site. They seemed to only be listing old stock like they were clearing out ready to close. It turns out they were busy preparing to move their operations to the US. I've noticed a lot of dissatisfaction amongst the UK customers over the recent site issues and product ranges, but none of their complaints come close to how I felt yesterday when I discovered their "Future Anglers and Hunters" range. A range of kids t-shirts and baby grows displaying pro hunting and fishing slogans such as "Eat Sleep Hunt" and "A bad day hunting is better than a good day at school". I was horrified. As someone strongly opposed to hunting and as a parent, I could not believe that Zulily were selling products that actively promote killing, especially ones designed for children.
The range of vile slogans and children's sizes available was vast. All of them in my mind horrific and encouraging children to hunt.
So I contacted Zulily via Facebook and Twitter to express my feelings, but my shock at seeing the products meant I struggled to translate my thoughts, and felt the comments I'd put didn't come anywhere near close to explaining how I felt about this product range. So I enlisted the help of some fellow animal lovers from a couple of online vegan groups who all were equally horrified.
Everyone got involved and went over to Zulilys Facebook page to express their thoughts. At first we all received a standard comment back about feedback being important blah blah blah, but as the amount of comments they received increased I suspect Zulily realised they had a PR nightmare heading their way.
By the end of the day Zulily had removed the whole range from sale, RESULT!
It just goes to show what can be achieved with a little bit of people power!
I'm over the moon that the products have been removed from sale, although I will be tracking down their manufacturer to let them know my thoughts too.
I'm dissapointed with Zulily, and despite the removal of these products I'm now aware that their morals don't seem to sit in what I consider to be the right place, especially when they are still selling products like this...
So it's unlikely they'll get my custom back which saddens me. I am so pleased though that everyone made the effort to stop these products being sold to the UK market and acted so promptly. If this can be achieved in one day what can be achieved in a week?!
